Frederick resident Titus Lamont Diggs, Jr. was sentenced to a combined 40 years in prison, suspending all but 20 years of active incarceration, the State’s Attorney’s Office announced.
Specifically, in late May, Diggs pleaded guilty to:
- Armed carjacking;
- Armed robbery;
- Assault;
- Illegal possession of a firearm;
- Loaded handgun on a person.
In December 2020, Diggs reportedly brandished a handgun and struck two men with a handgun multiple times, and robbed them during a planned meeting to purchase a THC vape cartridge in a deal that was made over Snapchat, prosecutors said.
In March 2021, Frederick police responded to Klinehart’s Alley and West 6th Street for the report of a gun being discharged, officials said. A second similar instance was reported on April 5, 2021, in between the 500 and 600 block of North Bentz Street allegedly involving Diggs, officials added.
Finally, on April 18, 2021, officers from the Frederick Police Department were dispatched to the 200 block of East 4th Street, where there was a reported armed carjacking, according to the attorney’s office.
An 84-year-old woman was retrieving her purse from the backseat of her car when Diggs walked up brandishing a handgun at his side, according to prosecutors. He then demanded that she hand over her car keys and proceeded to drive off with her car.
Diggs was found in possession of the stolen Chevy Malibu the following day by Baltimore County Police and subsequently arrested.
When officers searched the car, they also found a Ruger LCP .380 handgun and ammunition.
The shell casings from the gun discharges on March 30 and April 5 matched the gun recovered from him on April 19, investigators noted. Additionally, Diggs was identified through video and cell phone records as the shooter.
